Shakhtar Donetsk 2 Manchester City 1 : Young Nigerian Defender Puts In Impressive Shift
Published: December 06, 2017
Manchester City fell to a shock 2-1 defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League, their first of the season though the result did little to change anything about their progression to the next round.
Tosin Adarabioyo made his first start in the competition this campaign for the Citizens as Pep Guardiola looked to reshuffle ahead of the Manchester derby, forming part of the Citizens brittle back line which cracked to Shakhtar 's attacking menace.
Bernard Duarte stunned their illustrious visitors with a sensational strike with just 26 minutes played, Romero Marlos jinking past a sea of blue shirts to square for the Brazilian who curled in leaving Manchester City's goaltender, Ederson with no chance.
City's jittery opening hit another low in the 32nd minute, Marlos releasing Ismaily Dos Santos with a top ball which Ederson made a horrible judgement of, rushing out of the box to get nothing only to leave the defender to tap in and make give the Ukrainians a two goal lead.
Gabriel Jesus drew a foul in the box in the closing stages of the second half which allowed Sergio Aguero to step up and pull one back for his side.
But that was as good as it got for City as Shakhtar Donetsk resiliently held out for the win and dent their 100 percent record of the tournament so far.
