Published: December 13, 2017
West Ham and Arsenal played out a drab 0-0 draw in an English Premier League affair at The London Stadium on Wednesday evening, with Alex Iwobi featuring for the Gunners while Chuba Akpom entirely missed out.
The Super Eagles winger returned to the Gunners starting XI for the encounter after missing out of action in their previous two games, dazzling in the course of his outing.
After Marko Arnautovic had seen his effort chalked off for offside with just 14 minutes played, Iwobi nearly gave his side the lead in the 29th minute but for the base of the goal post, the attacker driving into the box from the right before seeing his shot cannon back off the upright.
Another of Arsenal's danger man, Mesut Ozil stabbed wide of the far corner from a tight angle after getting getting onto the end of a promising ball as Arsene Wenger's side came a whisker away from opening the scoring in the 56th minute.
West Ham nearly stunned their visitors with 24 minutes remaining of the game when Nacho Monreal made a desperate clearance off the line after Arnautovic had dinked past Peter Cech as Arsenal survived a huge scare.
Danny Welbeck replaced Iwobi after 70 minutes as the Gunners sought a breakthrough but the Hammers resiliently held on for a deserved point.
