Conte Names New Mikel, Five Players Of Nigerian Descent To Chelsea Premier League Roster
Published: February 03, 2018
Chelsea have submitted their squad list for the remainder of the 2017-2018 campaign to the Premier League following the close of the January transfer window.
The Blues Italian manager Antonio Conte has named as many as six players of Nigerian descent to the roster but in reality only two players can feature for the club.
Super Eagles stars Victor Moses and Ola Aina, England international Tammy Abraham, Young Lions stars Ike Ugbo, Tariq Uwakwe and Fikayo Tomori were all included.
Abraham has been loaned out to Swansea City for the remainder of the season, Ugbo is at MK Dons until June, while defensive pair Aina and Tomori will not be available for selection as they have been loaned out to Hull City.
Moses is Chelsea's first-choice right wing-back and will continue to make the match day squads, barring an injury.
Tariq Uwakwe, who has been dubbed the new Obi Mikel due to his ability to play several positions in midfield, has yet to debut for the first team but is one of the most important players for the U18s.
The London native joined Chelsea at U8 level and signed his first professional contract with the club in 2016.
