Nigerian Striker Promoted To Man City First Team But Not In 18 vs Burnley
Published: February 03, 2018
Nigerian striker Lukas Nmecha, 19, has been promoted to the first team of Manchester City by manager Pep Guardiola.
The Citizens are lacking numbers in attack following the injuries sustained by David Silva, Leroy Sane and Gabriel Jesus, and attempted to sign Riyad Mahrez on deadline day but could not meet his valuation.
Nmecha has been on the books of the Etihad outfit since the age of nine, and made his competitive debut against Leicester City in the League Cup in December 2017.
''We have just three strikers plus Brahim (Diaz) and Lukas Nmecha," Guardiola told reporters.
"From now on Lukas will train with us for the season. It is not enough but Gabriel [Jesus] is coming back soon - I don't know when exactly."
Lukas Nmecha is the third Nigerian talent promoted to City's first team in recent seasons, following in the footsteps of Kelechi Iheanacho and Tosin Adarabioyo.
He was not named amongst the substitutes in City's Premier League meeting with Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
