Nigerian Duo On The Mark As Southampton Hit Five Vs Newcastle In PL2
Published: February 19, 2018
Whilst Nathan Tella and Michael Obafemi started for the visitors, teammate Olufela Olomola entered into the fray with two minutes left on the clock.
Southampton took a slender one-goal lead into the break, thanks to ex-Arsenal schoolboy Nathan Tella who scored after an inviting ball from Joshua Sims.
The Saints went on the rampage after the intermission, with Obafemi doubling their advantage on 51 minutes before goals from Jones, Hesketh and Mdlalose.
The hosts managed to pull a goal back in the 69th minute through Josef Yarney.
Including his strike against The Magpies, Obafemi has tallied 13 goals for Southampton's youth teams this term.
The 17-year-old made his first-team debut against Tottenham Hotspur in January, becoming the first player of Nigerian descent born in 2000 to play in the Premier League.
