Gabriel Okechukwu Can Be Backup To Super Eagles Top Striker Ighalo, Says Agent
Published: March 08, 2018
The agent of Super Eagles surprise call up, Gabriel Okechukwu believes the Akwa United striker is going to be a joker for the Eagles if given the chance to play.
Makanjuola Nureni in an exclusive interview with allnigeriasoccer.com in Abuja says it will be easier for Okechukwu to impress in the main team of the Super Eagles than with the CHAN.
Earlier in the year, Okechukwu scored vital goals for the Super Eagles B team, popularly known as the CHAN Eagles before they were humbled 4-0 in the final of the 2018 CHAN championship.
Makanjuola says poor weather condition played a huge role in the Eagles’ 4-0 loss to Morocco.
''A lot of factors affected the Super Eagles, the major one is weather, the weather there is -5, the boys cannot cope because they camped in Abuja or Kano. You know the weather has set in in their body,'' Nureni said.
''In the main team, it is much easier for him to play than CHAN team. With the kind of pattern we are playing in the main Super Eagles I believe Okechukwu will be well know if he gets a chance.
''We have Odion Ighalo as our number one top striker, if Okechukwu can be his backup I will be happy. He is an exceptional player and can be a joker in the team.''
Nigeria will trade tackles with Poland on Friday, 23rd March 2018. Four days later, the Eagles will also take to the pitch against Serbia in another friendly in London.
