EPL Wrap: Iheanacho Scores & Assists; Ndidi Shines; Moses On The Bench; Obafemi Not In 18
Published: March 10, 2018
A round-up of Nigerian players that were in action for their respective clubs in the English Premier League on Saturday, 10th March.
Nigerian players with dual nationalities that have played competitively for the senior national teams of other countries have been omitted.
Marcus Rashford struck twice in the first half for Manchester United in their 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the early kick off at Old Trafford, with Eric Bailey's own goal not enough to deny Jose Mourinho's side the victory.
Tosin Kehinde and Matthew Olosunde were not selected in the hosts 18 while Dominic Solanke came off the bench for Liverpool in the 84th minute.
At the Hawthorns, Leicester City proved too strong for West Brom in a 4-1 win over the Baggies, with Nigerian striker, Kelechi Iheanacho coming off the bench to play a crucial role in the victory.
Iheanacho scored one and laid on another in the space of 16 minutes after replacing Shinji Okazaki on the hour mark.
His Super Eagles teammate, Wilfred Ndidi was afforded the entirety of the game which saw Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy and Salomon Rondon also get on the scoreboard. The number 25 was booked in the 73rd minute.
Michael Obafemi was not in the traveling party for a Southampton side that went down 3-0 to Newcastle United courtesy of a double from Chelsea loanee Kennedy and a strike from Matt Richie.
Elsewhere, Huddersfield Town and Swansea City played out a cagey goalless affair at the Kirklees Stadium, with Jordan Ayew's 11th minute sending off the talking point of the game.
Tammy Abraham came on for action after 73 minutes but could not help the Swans find a win.
In the late kick off, Super Eagle Victor Moses starts on the bench for Chelsea as they welcome Crystal Palace to Stamford Bridge.
