Wenger Calls Up 18-Year-Old Nigerian Defender To Train With Arsenal First Team
Published: March 11, 2018
Promising Nigerian defender Tobi Omole trained with Arsenal first-teamers at London Colney on Saturday morning ahead of their Premier League clash against Watford at the Emirates Stadium.
Omole was pictured wearing a white bib and trained alongside Rob Holding and Armenian captain Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Aged 18, he joined Arsenal at U14 level and had been a box-to-box midfielder before he was converted to a central defender and is capable of playing as a fullback.
Omole is one of the top-rated central defenders at Arsenal's Academy and made his league debut for Arsenal's U23 squad in the Premier League 2 at the age of seventeen.
The 6ft 2in tall defender has cited Arsenal's first-choice central defenders Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi as his role models.
Omole and his good pal Joseph Olowu, who is also a central defender, penned scholarship deals with Arsenal in the summer of 2016.
Super Eagles winger Alex Iwobi trained with the Gunners yesterday and is highly tipped to make his 19th Premier League appearance this term, especially as he did not get any minutes vs AC Milan in the Europa League.
