Chelsea Through To FA Cup Semis; Azpilicueta Shouts At Moses For Gifting Vardy A Free Header
Published: March 18, 2018Chelsea have set up a meeting with Southampton in the semifinals of the Emirates FA Cup following their 2-1 win after extra time over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday evening.
Three Super Eagles stars in the shape of Victor Moses, Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi were on parade for their respective teams.
Ndidi was unlucky not to open the scoring in the 20th minute as his shot from distance was just bending away from goalkeeper Wilfredo Caballero but the Argentine gathered at the second attempt.
Alavaro Morata clipped the ball past Schmeichel to give Chelsea the lead in the 42nd minute, with Willian the creator.
In a 3-4-3 formation deployed by manager Antonio Conte, Cesar Azpilicueta was the right-sided central defender and the Chelsea captain was very furious with Moses for drifting away from Jamie Vardy, which allowed him a free header in the second half.
The London team could not maintain their grip and lost their lead in the 76th minute when Vardy fired the ball home from close range which eventually took the game to extra time.
In the last minute of the first-half of extra time, Pedro, one of the substitutes introduced by Conte, headed home after Schmeichel completely misjudged a cross from Kante.
