Manchester City's Nigerian Captain Notches Brace Against Everton In PL2
Published: April 01, 2018
Manchester City U23 captain Lukas Nmecha and Philip Foden both notched braces for themselves in a 4-3 turnout against Everton U23s at The Goodison Park on a Premier League 2 clash on Sunday afternoon.
Three players of Nigerian descent were involved for the young Citizens in the game, the duo of Tosin Adarabioyo and Lukas Mmecha who were named in the first team's match-day squad yesterday both featuring from the off while Tom Dele-Bashiru was thrown in after 54 minutes.
Fraser Hornby opened the floodgates after 19 minutes, racing clear of the City defense to slot past Arijanet Muric before Con Ouzounidis rose highest from a corner to send a powerful header in for 2-0 nine minutes later.
Foden converted from close range after good work from Brahim Diaz down the right flank to pull one back after the restart and Nmecha restored parity four minutes after the hour mark, rounding Everton goalkeeper, Mateusz Hewelt with some fine bit of skill to finish.
Nmecha was not done though as he made it 3-2 for the visitors four minutes later, picking the ball up on the left of the area and proceeding to rifle it into the top right corner.
Shayne Lavery and Foden goals would follow but the latter's effort proved the difference and separated the sides in the goal-laden encounter.
The double marked Nmecha's 13th for the U23s in the Premier League 2 this season and such performance continues to bolster his stock.
