Tottenham Reject Musa Yahaya Excellent As Porto Set Up Meeting With Arsenal PLIC
Published: April 13, 2018Porto B have set up a meeting with Arsenal in the final of the Premier League International Cup after a hard fought 1-0 win over Newcastle United at St. James' Park on Thursday evening, with Musa Yahaya impressing for the Portuguese club.
It means for the second straight season at least one Nigerian player is in line to represent the two finalists in the showpiece.
Last May, Joel Asoro and Josh Maja started for the Sunderland side that lost 5-0 to Porto, with Chidozie Awaziem scoring the fifth goal for the visitors.
Left-back Oleg Reabciuk netted the winning goal for Porto against Newcastle United in the 90th minute, pouncing on a rebound after goalkeeper Nathan Harker parried away a shot into his direction.
Barring an injury, ex-Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles winger Yahaya will return to the city he knows too well when Porto face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on May 8.
In 2014, the Mutunchi Academy product trained with Tottenham Hotspur Academy in London but a transfer didn't materialize when he attained the age of majority despite signing a pre-contract.
Yahaya started Porto's 1-0 win over Bayern Munich in the group stage and was a non-playing substitute when they faced Liverpool in February in the Premier League International Cup.
Tolaji Bola, Xavier Amaechi, Chuba Akpom, Joseph Olowu and Folarin Balogun have represented the Gunners in the competition this season.
