Luis Enrique Could Coach Iwobi Next Season As Arsenal Hold Talks With Barca Legend
Published: April 20, 2018
Barcelona legend Luis Enrique could be coaching Nigeria international Alex Iwobi next season as Arsenal have held talks with the Spaniard over replacing Arsene Wenger at the club.
Today, Friday, Wenger, who handed Iwobi his first-team debut in October 2015, announced he would step down at the end of this season after 22 years in charge of the Gunners.
The management of Arsenal held an informal meeting with former Barcelona coach Luis Enrique, during which they discussed the possible appointment of the Spaniard to the post of head coach of the London club, according to the Independent UK.
The stumbling block to the deal is that Enrique wants to be paid the same wages as Wenger, thought to be around eight million pounds per year.
Former Arsenal midfielders Patrick Vieira and Mikel Arteta, and German duo Domenico Tedesco and Julian Nagelsmann are also being considered for the job.
To date, Iwobi has played 93 matches for Arsenal's first team under Wenger, scoring eight goals.
