Race For Man City's Nigerian Starlet Hots Up: Called Up By England & Germany Again
Published: May 10, 2018
Manchester City's Nigeria midfielder Felix Nmecha is spoilt for choice over the national team that he will represent after receiving call-ups from the English FA and the German Federation for international matches this month.
This is the second time in 2018 that Nmecha has been summoned to England and Germany U18 teams at the same time but he opted to represent his country of birth in March.
The Hamburg-born whizkid made his international debut for Germany across all levels when he came off the bench as the U18s were held to a 2-2 draw by France on March 23.
It appears his heart is with Germany and the English FA and even the Nigerian Federation will need to do some convincing to the player about the merits of choosing their respective associations.
On May 8, Felix Nmecha, wearing the number 11 jersey and playing as an attacking midfielder, was named in the starting line-up in Germany's 3-1 win over Russia in an international friendly staged in Volgograd.
England U18 head coach Neil Dewsnip has included Nmecha and Tottenham Hotspur defender Timothy Eyoma in a 19-man squad for the Panda Cup Tournament in China, where they will face Uruguay, China and Hungary at the Shuangliu Sports Stadium in Chengdu.
It remains to be seen if the Manchester City U18 star will link up with the Young Lions squad two days after representing Germany.
