Arsenal 5 PSG 1: Iwobi Passes First Audition Under New Gunners Coach
Published: July 28, 2018
Arsenal put in a rampant display in Singapore to trash Paris Saint Germain 5-1 in their International Champions Cup clash on Saturday afternoon.
Super Eagles star, Alex Iwobi was deployed upfront alongside attackers, Pierre Aubameyang, Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan for Arsenal at The National Stadium.
Ten minutes after the Gunners had gone ahead through Mesut Ozil's effort in the 13th minute, the Nigerian nearly doubled the lead after he was picked out by Mkhitaryan but the 22-year-old was denied by a sensational save from PSG custodian, Gianluigi Buffon.
After a very satisfactory first half showing, Unai Emery opted to replace the winger as part of the second half changes, introducing Alexandre Lacazette in his place.
Iwobi was not involved in his side's first two pre-season games, the 8-0 trashing of Boreham Wood and the 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid due to his World Cup exhaustion will now look to forge a good partnership with his teammates before the resumption of a new season.
Alongside Ozil's first half goal, Lacazette(2), Rob Holding and Eddie Nketiah also got on the scoresheet for Arsenal while Christopher Nkunku got the Parisians consolatory effort from the spot.
Next up for Iwobi and his team is a clash with Premier League counterparts, Chelsea in another ICC tourney game on Wednesday August 1.
