Manchester United's Nigerian Duo On Target Again In Eight-Goal Thriller Vs Middlesbrough
Published: September 02, 2018Promising Nigerian youngsters, Mipo Odubeko and Shola Shoretire, registered their names on the score-sheet in the eight-goal thriller between Manchester United U16s and Middlesbrough on Saturday, September 1.
The game was held on the same day that United U18s suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Boro in the U18 Premier League North.
A brace from Odubeko and additional tallies from Shoretire, Charlie Wellens and Calen Gallagher secured a win for Manchester United U16 side, who have returned to the United Kingdom after participating in the 2nd Jockey Club Youth Football Academy Summit in Hong Kong.
Both Nigerians and a third player Deji Sotona impressed in Hong Kong, with Shoretire claiming the man-of-the-match award in the showpiece against Guangdong U17.
South Dublin-born Odubeko and Sotona have caps for Republic of Ireland youth teams, while Shoretire, who is regarded as the most talented of the three teenagers, is on the radar of the English Football Association, with a view to a call-up to the Young Lions.
Meanwhile, defender Matthew Olosunde has not played for Manchester United's U23 squad in the new season because he is recovering from an undisclosed injury.
