Manchester City's Nmecha, Derby County's Shonibare Open Premier League 2 Account
Published: September 22, 2018
Two players of Nigerian descent were on target for their respective sides in a five-goal thriller between Manchester City and Derby County in a Premier League 2 encounter at the Academy Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The hosts were two goals up at the break thanks to two early strikes from Felix Nmecha and Lorenzo Gonzalez, with the Nigerian opening the scoring in the third minute.
Nmecha scored a stunning goal from outside the box, his second goal in his last two matches for City's youth team, having netted a consolation for the U19s in their shock defeat to Lyon in the UEFA Youth League.
City increased their lead to 3-0 in the 74th minute but The Rams pulled a goal back two minutes later through Josh Shonibare, who displayed his predatory instincts after heading home from close range.
Aside from the two aforementioned players, Nathaniel Ogbeta and Tom Dele-Bashiru were on parade for the Citizens and Aaron Eyoma, who was formerly on the books of Arsenal, started for the visitors.
Today's win saw Manchester City climb to third in the table with 10 points, 2 ahead of Derby County who are seventh.
