Aina Among Three Nigerian Starlets In Chelsea UYL Squad; Two In Midtjylland Squad
Published: September 27, 2018
Chelsea have submitted their squad list for the UEFA Youth League and there are no surprises in the 40-man group with all the Nigerian players in contention to be named making the cut.
First-year scholars Jordan Aina and Faustino Anjorin, and England U19 star Tariq Uwakwe have been selected by manager Joe Edwards.
Although Chelsea did not finish in the top four positions in the Premier League last season, the Young Blues are one of England's five representatives in the UEFA Youth League by virtue of being the U18 national champions.
Two time winners of the UEFA Youth League, Chelsea begin their campaign against Molde at the Cobham Training Centre on October 3 and face the Norwegians in the second leg three weeks later.
Ola Aina's sibling, Jordan, has yet to debut in the UEFA Youth League but was registered for the competition last season; Anjorin has one appearance to his name which was against Atlético Madrid in 2017, while midfielder Uwakwe has played in three matches.
Nigerian duo, Sunday Oche Odeh and Jibril Antala Abubakar, were both named in the FC Midtjylland squad ahead of next week's clash with Bohemians.
Odeh is a central defender while Abubakar is a center forward. Both players were born in 2000.
