'He Did Fantastic Against Manchester City' - Chelsea Coach Hails The 'New Obi Mikel'
Published: November 01, 2018
Chelsea U21 boss Joe Edwards has revealed that he can count on Nigerian midfielder Tariq Uwakwe for their upcoming matches after he was left out of the squad that recorded an impressive 5-0 win over League One opponents Plymouth Argyle in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday.
An England youth international, Uwakwe played three matches for Chelsea's youth teams in the space of seven days, hence he was not considered for the trip to Plymouth.
''‘It’s pleasing to have good options in the ranks and everyone is chipping in with goals and assists,'' Edwards told Chelsea's official website.
''We have Luke McCormick, who is an experienced player for us, almost ready to come back from injury, and Tariq Uwakwe who did fantastic in our last away game at Manchester City.
''There’s competition even in training and hopefully we can maintain this form ahead of a big game against Arsenal at the weekend.''
Uwakwe is capable of playing as a defensive and attacking midfielder and has drawn comparisons with Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel due to his versatility.
