Blackpool Boss Rates Delfouneso's Display, Dubs Iwobi's Arsenal The Best Team In Europe.
Published: November 01, 2018
Blackpool boss Terry McPhillips faced the cameras shortly after his side were knocked out of the League Cup after losing 2-1 to Arsenal and has said that he was impressed with the performance of Nigerian striker Nathan Delfouneso.
The former Aston Villa super kid thought he had restored parity for the Seasiders in the 69th minute when he tapped into an empty net after Petr
Cech had been caught out in possession but was flagged for offside.
''With 11 v 10 we had them on the back foot and Jay (Spearing) has had a chance, pinching it off the goalie,'' McPhillips told reporters after the game at The Emirates.
''Nathan (Delfouneso) got in behind them first half and Paudie has hit the crossbar before he scored.''
Arsenal, who have in their ranks Alex Iwobi, have won all but one of their last thirteen games across all competitions, with the Super Eagles star taking part in eleven matches.
''We gave them a scare and I thought we were terrific to a man. To come here, to the best team in Europe at the moment with the run they’re on, and scare them is just brilliant,'' added McPhillips.
Arsenal will be playing at home against Tottenham Hotspur in the quarterfinals of the League Cup in the week commencing December 17.
