'New Mikel' Has A Hand In Three Goals As Chelsea Thrash Elfsborg 6-0 In UYL
Published: November 28, 2018
Nigerian midfielder Tariq Uwakwe, who has been likened to John Obi Mikel due to his versatility, had two assists and one goal for Chelsea in their 6-0 rout of Elfsborg in the second round, second leg of their UEFA Youth League qualifier on Wednesday afternoon.
Another exciting prospect of Nigerian descent, Faustino Anjorin, celebrated signing a professional contract with Chelsea by providing the assist for the fourth goal scored by the two-time champions.
The two players went the distance as Chelsea won 9-0 on aggregate and booked a playoff place against one of the eight group stage runners-up.
Charlie Brown put the Londoners 1-0 up in the 15th minute, assisted by Tariq Uwakwe and he also provided the assist for the team's second goal scored by Daishawn Redan.
On the stroke of half-time, Juan Familio-Castillo fired home from a tight angle to make it 4-0 after he was fed by Anjorin.
The 19-year-old Uwakwe has recorded five appearances in total since he debuted for the Blues in the UYL in the 2017-18 season while Anjorin has played three games.
Super Eagles defender Ola Aina is Nigeria's record appearance holder in the UEFA Youth League, after playing 20 matches in three seasons.
