Europa League: 17-Year-Old Nigerian Winger In Line For Professional Debut For Arsenal, Iwobi Rested
Published: November 28, 2018
Teenage Nigerian winger cum fullback Bukayo Saka is in line to make his professional debut for Arsenal when they take on Ukrainian opponents Vorskla Poltava in the Europa League on Thursday.
Saka trained with the first teamers on Wednesday morning at London Colney and was part of The Gunners traveling party to Kiev.
The 17-year-old was promoted to Arsenal U23s team at the start of the 2018-2019 campaign after winger Reiss Nelson was loaned out to Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim in the summer transfer window.
The Hale End Academy product's form for Arsenal's youth teams has seen his stock rise on the international stage, with England U19s boss Keith Downing handing him a debut against Moldova on November 14, two months after he first played for England U18s.
Of the twenty players selected by manager Unai Emery for the trip to Ukraine, twelve are products of Arsenal academy.
Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi has been presumably rested after starting the last three matches for club and country and will not make his 20th appearance for the Gunners in European competitions vs Vorskla Poltava.
