No Sign Of Nigerian RB Dubbed 'New Dani Alves' Debuting For Manchester United First Team
Published: December 08, 2018
There is no sign that American-born Nigerian defender Matthew Olosunde will make his debut for Manchester United's first team before the end of the 2018-2019 season.
The one-cap United States international had been tipped for an imminent debut for The Red Devils after he was named to the provisional roster for the Premier League matches against Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur at the tail end of the 2016-2017 season.
Olosunde has not figured for United's youth teams this campaign due to an undisclosed ailment and was conspicuously absent as the U23 team beat Middlesbrough 2-0 in the Premier League 2 Division 2 on Friday night.
With United knocked out of the League Cup and playing catch-up on the top four teams in the Premier League, it is unlikely that manager Jose Mourinho will hand a debut to the right back when he returns to full fitness.
Prior to Olosunde's spell on the sidelines, he showcased his ability to play in multiple positions : right-back, left-back, central defense, right midfield, left midfield, defensive midfield.
Labelled the the new Dani Alves, the 20-year-old extended his contract with Manchester United in the summer of 2017.
