Austria Ahead Of Nigeria In Race For Kano-Born Red Bull Salzburg Teen Sensation
Published: December 12, 2018
The Austrian Football Association are ahead of their Nigerian counterparts in the race for highly-rated Red Bull Salzburg striker Junior Chikwubuike Adamu, allnigeriasoccer.com understands.
Although Adamu was born in Kano to Nigerian parents, it's the Austrians who have made the first move to cap-tie him after inviting him to their U18 team.
The center forward made his debut for Austria U18s against Switzerland in October and has earned three caps to date for the age group.
Adamu is seen as one of the brightest young talents in Austria and made his professional debut for the feeder team of Red Bull Salzburg, FC Liefering, in the 2 Liga last month at the age of seventeen.
He scored 21 goals in 22 appearances for Red Bull Salzburg U16 team during the 2016-2017 season.
Adamu began his career at Gsv Wacker followed by spells at Grazer
Athletiksport Klub Juniors and Red Bull Salzburg, whom he joined in
2015.
Kelvin Arase, Marvin Egho and Karim Onisiwo have played for Austria's national teams but remain eligible to turn out for Nigeria.
