Nigeria 4 Ghana 2 : Effiom Puts On A Show As Flying Eagles Qualify For U20 WAFU Cup Semi-Final
Published: December 12, 2018
Nigeria qualified for the semi final of the WAFU U20 Cup Tournament with a 4-2 victory over arch rivals Ghana on Wednesday.
The game witnessed a great improvement from the Flying Eagles who weren't impressive against Niger.
But it was the Black Satellites who raced to the lead courtesy of Toku in the 28th minute.
The setback didn't deter the Paul Aigbogun managed side to attack the Black Satellites in numbers.
One minute before halftime, Nigeria restored parity through Enyimba youngster Maxwell Michael.
It was a wonderful first 45 minutes from both sides. Ghana did not start very well but Toku's opener set the pace.
Ghana kept the heat on Nigeria but Amankonah missed a brilliant opportunity to increase the tally for Ghana.
Maxwell's goal was just amazing. The drive from the Nigerian was just too powerful for Ghana goalie Frederick Asare to prevent.
The introduction of Adeshina Issa Gata added more impetus to the tactical system of the Flying Eagles who pressed the opposition at will.
Abubakar Ibrahim converted a spot kick to put Nigeria in front after 77 minutes.
There was still more in the offing from the rampaging Flying Eagles.
Wasiu Alalade grabbed the third goal before Effiom complete his brace to make the scoreline 4-1.
Toku also got a double when he reduced the deficit for the Black Satellites.
Effiom was voted man of the match at the end of proceedings.
