Eagles Striker Simy Nwankwo: Last Season Was The Best & Most Important Of My Career
Published: December 25, 2018
Crotone striker Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo will forever remain grateful to Gernot Rohr for helping him fulfill his dreams of representing the Super Eagles and playing at the World Cup.
The lanky striker earned reviews for his performances at the tail end of the 2017-18 season, scoring 6 goals in eight matches, which caught the attention of Rohr but Crotone failed in their battle to beat the drop.
Speaking to Serie B Magazine, Simy said : ''The call for the World Cup? Last year was the best and most important year of my career. I fulfilled a dream, to wear the shirt of Nigeria and also to play the World Cup.
''It was fantastic, but I'm still disappointed because the Crotone did not stay in Serie A.''
Despite the fact Crotone are one point above the relegation zone after 16 games, Simy insists that they can achieve their ambition of returning to the Italian topflight.
He added : ''We had to be candidates for promotion and we continue to be candidates until the end, even if at this moment we are not where we want but we do not change goals, we always play to win and the team has the qualities to do it. ''
In 15 outings for Crotone in the Serie B, Simy has registered his name on the score-sheet three times.
