Ameobi Blasts Arsenal Players For Loss To Liverpool As Jurgen Klopp's Men Face Man City
Published: January 03, 2019As Premier League leaders Liverpool face defending champions Manchester City in a huge game at the Etihad Stadium tonight former Super Eagles forward Shola Ameobi has reflected on the capitulation of Arsenal at the Anfield on December 29 in a 5-1 mauling against Liverpool and insists the Gunners simply gave away the victory.
Ameobi a former player with Newcastle United bared his mind to BBC Radio 5Live as reported by Daily Star on Thursday about the one sided game in which Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi was one of the few shining stars in an otherwise disappointing performance.
"I don't think they [Liverpool] were made to work very hard for a couple of those goals and that's what will frustrate Unai Emery, the fact that they did so well to go ahead and they just concede the goal straight after.''
Ameobi who was part of Nigeria's 2014 World Cup squad in Brazil identified when Unai Emery's team gave up.
"When Arsenal went 2 goals behind it was almost like they conceded the defeat. There was an acceptance there.
"That, I guess, is the frustrating thing if I was the Arsenal manager, the fact that they just accepted they were going to lose.
"There wasn't any fight left in them as soon as they went behind and that was the total opposite, obviously, to Liverpool who are on a fantastic run at home."
The Manchester City versus Liverpool clash kicks off 9pm Nigerian time.
