Southampton's Nigerian Midfielder Notches Brace In 5-1 Rout Of Okocha's West Ham U18
Published: January 05, 2019
Nigerian teenager Roland Idowu netted his first brace in England as
Southampton thrashed West Ham 5-1 in an U18 Premier League fixture
staged at Staplewood Training Ground on Saturday afternoon.
The
16-year-old was not the only player of Nigerian descent named in the
starting line-up as his teammate David Agbontohoma also started while
West Ham's Josh Okocha made his eighth start of the season.
On
33 minutes, the deadlock was broken as Idowu was the quickest to react,
poking home the rebound after an effort was parried by the Hammers
goalkeeper.
1-0 became 2-0 in the 61st
minute and it was Idowu that wrote his name on the scoresheet once
again, as he coolly finished after capitalizing on a defensive error.
Rio
Glean, Ryan Cluett and Jack Turner supplied the other goals for
Southampton in the last 10 minutes while Seurier's 72nd minute goal
which made it 2-1 was only a consolation.
Idowu was offered a scholarship by Southampton in July 2018 after training with the club for close to a year.
