Chelsea Striker Could Break Nigerian Transfer Record Held By Leicester City's Iheanacho
Published: January 10, 2019
Chelsea have slapped a £50 million price tag on England U21 star of Nigerian descent Tammy Abraham amid interest from Premier League clubs, according to reports.
Daily Mirror says Aston Villa are confident they have won the battle to keep Tammy Abraham on loan this month with Chelsea asking up to £50 million (approximately N22.8 billion in Nigerian currency) to buy the striker.
The likes of Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers who have been credited with an interest in the striker may be put off by the asking price.
The highest fee Palace have paid to sign a player is the £27 million paid to Liverpool for Christian Benteke in August 2016 while Wolves' record transfer is Adama Traoré's move from Middlesbrough which cost £18 million.
Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho became the most expensive Nigerian player in history when he joined Leicester City for £25 million, breaking the previous record held by Odion Ighalo, who cost Changchun Yatai £20.97 million.
If Wolves or Crystal Palace agree to pay the fee demanded by Chelsea for Tammy Abraham, they will break their transfer record for incoming transfers and the 21-year-old will become the most expensive player of Nigerian descent in history.
