Chelsea Legend Mikel Prices Himself Out Of Move To Fenerbahce, Major League Soccer
Published: January 11, 2019Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Turkish Super Lig club Fenerbahce have pulled out of a deal to sign Nigeria skipper John Obi Mikel in the January transfer window due to his excessive wage demands.
Fenerbahce are in the market for a midfielder and striker and have been linked with three key members of the Super Eagles squad to the 2018 World Cup in the shape of Odion Ighalo, Victor Moses and Mikel.
The leadership of the Istanbul club held transfer talks with representatives of Mikel but were unwilling to match his wage demands.
A couple of Major League Soccer clubs have courted Mikel in recent days but the gap between what the Chelsea legend is demanding and what they are offering him is significant.
The central midfielder will be 32 in April 2019 and is aiming for one last big pay day before hanging up his boots.
Mikel cancelled his contract with Chinese Super League club Tianjin Teda in January, a
year before the agreement between club and player was due to run out.
