Chelsea Legend John Terry Lifts The Lid On The Nigerian Player He Hated Playing Against
Published: January 30, 2019
John Terry has admitted that he hated playing against Tammy Abraham during his time at Chelsea, as the Nigeria-eligible striker was always passionate and eager to score goals.
The former Chelsea captain is now an assistant coach at Aston Villa and has suggested that Abraham is excellent behind closed doors just as he does in competitive matches.
Abraham has been a key reason why Aston Villa still have playoff hopes after scoring an impressive 19 goals in 23 games, more than any player in the division.
''I know him very well and I used to play against him at Chelsea,'' Terry said to Birmingham Mail.
"He was one of those players that when I saw one of the academy players come over to train with the first team, me and Gaz Cahill used to look at each other and say 'Oh no, here we go.'
''You knew he was going to come over and put himself about and run the channels, score goals, be hungry and be passionate.''
He added : ''As an older member of the group you wanted a nice easy day against a middle-aged striker.
"Tam always posed a big threat and I knew he would go on to do well, which he is doing.
''The thing I love about him is that you see him on Saturday scoring goals, but he is like that in the week, running away punching the air in five-a-side games.....''
