Nigerian Teenager Trains With Chelsea First Team Pre-Tottenham Hotspur
Published: February 27, 2019London-born Nigerian midfielder Tariq Uwakwe will be aiming to break into the first team of Chelsea in the not too distant future, if he is retained by the Stamford Bridge outfit at the end of the season.
Shortly after celebrating his seventeenth birthday, Uwakwe penned his first professional contract that will keep him at the Blues until June 30, 2019.
The 19-year-old Uwakwe was photographed training with Chelsea's first team on Tuesday ahead of their crucial Premier League match with Tottenham Hotspur tonight, starting from 2100 hours.
Predominantly a central midfielder, Uwakwe is unlikely to be included in the match day eighteen with experienced midfielders such as Jorginho, Ross Barkley, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mateo Kovačić all available for selection.
He originally joined Chelsea as an U9 and has progressed through the age groups at the Academy.
Although injury has limited Uwakwe's appearances this season, he has played 14 matches in total for the youth teams in the Premier League 2, EFL Trophy and UEFA Youth League.
