Jadon Sancho Transfer: FA Investigating Man City Over Illegal N93.2M Paid To Nigerian Agent
Published: February 27, 2019
The Times UK is reporting that the transfer of England international Jadon Sancho to Manchester City in March 2015 will be investigated by the English Football Association.
German magazine Der Spiegel and Football Leaks claim Manchester City violated the regulations concerning the transfer of minors when the Borussia Dortmund midfielder joined the Citizens.
At the time of the transfer, Sancho was fourteen years old and City made a £200,000 (N93.2 million) payment to his Nigerian agent, Emeka Obasi to effect the transfer from Watford.
Manchester City tried to conceal the payment by giving Obasi a contract to scout for players in South and Central America.
''We can confirm that we will be investigating the allegations,'' an FA spokeswoman told The Times.
Football Association rules state that agents are forbidden to represent the interests of football players under the age of 16 and clubs are not permitted to make payments to their representatives.
Should it be proven that Man City acted unlawfully, they could be banned from signing academy players and fined.
