Man Utd Defender In Contention To Make Debut For USA Olympic Squad Vs AFCON Hosts
Published: March 20, 2019Manchester United starlet Matthew Olosunde is in contention to make his international debut for United States Olympic squad this month.
The versatile right-back has been named in the latest United States U23 squad which was announced on March 19 by the United States Soccer Federation.
The USA U23s who are handled by manager Jason Kreis face Egypt in San Pedro del Pinatar, Spain on Friday, March 22 before another friendly against the Netherlands two days later.
Olosunde, who remains eligible to represent Nigeria through his father, has earned caps for United States at U17 and U20 level and trained with the senior team last summer before making his non-competitive debut in a 3-0 win against Bolivia in Philadelphia.
The 21-year-old has returned to full fitness after spending several months on the sidelines, an injury that denied him the chance to make his first-team debut for Manchester United.
Toronto FC striker Ayo Akinola has been included on USA U20 roster by head coach Tab Ramos for a training camp ahead of the 2019 Fifa U20 World Cup and could add to his international caps in the friendlies against France (March 22) and Japan (March 25).
