Okonkwo Keeps Clean Sheet On Premier League 2 Debut For Arsenal
Published: March 29, 2019Arsenal beat West Ham United 1-0 in their Premier League 2 meeting at Hertfordshire on Friday evening.
The big news from Meadow Park is that the Gunners Nigerian goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has finally been afforded his debut for the team's U23 side at just 17.
Xavier Amaechi, James Olayinka and Bukayo Saka also starred from the off for Freddie Ljungberg's boys while 22-goal striker, Folarin Balogun was introduced off the bench for Joe Willock after 83 minutes.
Prior to his bow for the club U23s, the highly rated Okonkwo who has established himself as one of the best upcoming goaltenders the club has ever produced has been included in the match day squad in their PL 2 on a number of occasions.
And the youngster looked very much the part in the victory as he showed brave goalkeeping abilities when he raced off his line in the 50th minute to deny Nathan Holland a clear-cut chance and spare his team's blushes at the back.
A thumping first half strike from Tyreece John-Jules was all that seperated both sides after ninety minutes.
