Promising Nigerian Goalkeeper Nearing Debut For English U18 Champions Chelsea
Published: April 07, 2019Promising Nigerian goalkeeper Kelechi Chibueze is inching closer to his competitive debut for English U18 champions Chelsea.
An England youth international, Chibueze was named in the Blues match day squad for the second successive week as they were held to a 2-2 draw by West Ham in the U18 Premier League on Saturday.
The 2003-born goalkeeper is a regular for Chelsea's U16 team and was in between the pipes when they lifted the U16 Premier League Cup last month.
Former England U16 defender Jordan Aina was only considered for matches in the U18 Premier League after he was an unused substitute in three games and Chibueze could follow in his footsteps.
It remains to be seen whether Chibueze will make his competitive U18 debut before the end of the 2018-19 campaign as he may be called up for international duty this week with England U16s taking part in the Montaigu Tournament.
The young Blues face Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham and Reading in their final three games of the season.
