Published: May 01, 2019
No Super Eagles player has made the cut for the top four goalscoring defenders of Nigerian descent in the European Leagues in the 2018-2019 season.
Rotherham United's Semi Ajayi, who has tallied 7 goals this term, has been omitted from the list because he plays for a second-tier club and all his goals were scored from his new defensive midfield position.
Allnigeriasoccer.com has compiled a list of the most prolific Nigerian defenders in Europe so far this season :
1) Daniel Adejo (PAS Lamia, 3 goals) : The former Flying Eagles star was in red-hot form at the start of the season, netting 3 goals in his first 8 games for PAS Lamia but has not found the net since October 27, 2018.
Whether he scores or not again this season, he has set a new personal record for goals in a single season, beating his old mark of 2 goals he set while defending the colours of AEL Kalloni back in the 2014-15 campaign.
Adessoye Oyewole (Orenburg, 3 goals) : The Russian-Nigerian defender is the oldest player on the list, aged 36, and has netted against two of the big teams in the Russian Premier League, Zenit St. Petersburg and CSKA Moscow.
Oyewole has scored an impressive 17 career goals since turning professional .
Emanuel Aiwu ( FC Admira Wacker, 3 goals) : Aiwu is having a breakout season, and was promoted to Austria's U19 squad in March 2019 after beginning the season with the U18s.
The highly-rated youngster is comfortable playing as a central defender and right back.
4) Godfrey Beetock Stephen (Isloch Minskiy Rayon, 2 goals) : Aged 18, the Flying Eagles handlers missed out on this one as he would have posed a threat from set-piece situations if he had been invited.
The Gee-Lec Academy product has netted in every single game he has featured as a professional, two in two matches.
