Belgium Dazzler Hazard Beats Nigerian Midfielder To Chelsea Goal Of The Season Award
Published: May 10, 2019
Belgium World Cup star Eden Hazard has beaten Nigeria-eligible midfielder Faustino Anjorin and six other contenders to win Chelsea's Goal of the Season award on Friday night.
Hazard's brilliant solo goal against Liverpool in the third round of the League Cup was judged to be the best and the winger was presented with the award at the Royal Lancaster Hotel during the Chelsea Awards 2019.
Anjorin's swerving long-range strike in Chelsea's 2-1 win at
Brighton in an U18 Premier League fixture on October 6, 2018 had made the shortlist, one of the 11 goals he netted this season for Chelsea's youth teams.
One of the top talents at the Chelsea Academy, the England U18 star was not chosen as the Academy Player of the Year, an accolade won by his U23 teammate Conor Gallagher.
Nigeria-eligible duo Dominic Solanke (2015) and Fikayo Tomori (2016) scooped the Chelsea Academy Player of the Year award in the first two editions but no player of Nigerian descent has won it for three years running now.
Anjorin's season was disrupted by injury and he returned to action against Barcelona in the UEFA Youth League on April 26.
