England U18 Call-Up For Arsenal Goalkeeper Who Is There For Nigeria's Taking
Published: May 14, 2019
In-form Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has been recalled to the England U18 squad for an eight-team tournament in Slovakia this month.
The highly-rated netminder will report for international duty on the back of a fine season for the Gunners; he trained frequently with the first team and posted three shutouts in his last four matches in the Premier League 2.
Okonkwo is eligible to represent the Nigeria national teams through his parents but allnigeriasoccer.com has been informed that no concrete approach has been made by the Nigeria Football Federation for his services.
With over ten appearances for the Young Lions, he does not need to request for a one-time change of association if he decides to represent Nigeria now as all the matches were friendly matches.
Two other Nigeria-eligible players in the shape of defenders Ajibola Alese (West Ham United) and Nathanael Ogbeta (Manchester City), who are both provisionally cap-tied to England, have been named in the 22-man group by manager Neil Dewsnip.
England U18s face Russia on Monday May 20, Slovakia the next day and Mexico on Thursday May 23, with a finals day to follow on Friday May 24.
