Flying Eagles Player Ratings Vs USA : Dele-Bashiru Struggles; Aliu Not Rated; Utin Checkmated; Effiom Passenger; Offia Ineffective
Published: May 27, 2019
The Flying Eagles lost 2-0 to USA in their second group game of the U-20 World Cup on Monday.
The Starters
Goalkeeper
Orewale Oremade: Had to scramble behind a Tim Weah's shot with barely 20 minutes into the clash.
Had no answer to either of Sebastien Soto's goal, of which his defence let him down for the second. (5/10)
Defenders
Rabiu Zulkifilu: Could do little as the opponents continuously laid siege on Nigeria's rear zone.
Left too much space for Soto to exploit and the careless approach put them two behind. (4/10)
Aliu Salawudeen: Had very little influence of note and couldn't stop the opposition advances into the Flying Eagles defence.
A booking at the death compounded his woes. Too poor to be rated. (-)
Valentine Ozornwafor: Had a tough evening marking an irrepressible Alex Mendez and Sebastian Soto.
Quite one of the games he will wish to quickly forget. (4/10)
Ikouwem Utin: Looked in the mood but struggled to find enough room to work with as the Yanks left little spaces in behind.
Saw little of the trickery he could muster down the flank come off. (4/10)
Midfielders
Jamil Muhammad: Hushed showing from Jamil who was dragged around by the technically sound USA midfielders. (5/10)
Tom Dele-Bashiru: The move by Aigbogun to replace him with just 31 minutes on the clock explained it all. Tom had quite a horrible game. (3.5/10)
Maxwell Effiom: Saw little ball to work with in the opposition half and was largely a passenger for large swathes of the game. (4.5/10)
Kingsley Michael: Kept in wrap by Mark McKenzie who bullied the Bologna ace, one of which caused a penalty which was disallowed by the VAR. (4.5/10)
Attackers
Jerome Akor: Little input throughout the game and one will be wondering quite why he pipped Tijani to a starting place here.
Hooked with 54 minutes on the clock. (4/10)
Henry Offia: Sent a couple of tame shots at Scott and failed to conjure up enough quality upfront.
Really should have done better. (4/10)
The Substitutes
Aniekeme Okon: Replaced Dele-Bashiru who had a nightmare outing and tried to little effect in working the balls into dangerous area.
Picked up a yellow for a dangerous tackle on Paxton Pomykal late in the game. (5/10)
Muhammad Tijani: Came close to grabbing a goal for Nigeria when Chris Richards kept out his goal-bound shot. (4/10)
Success Makanjuola: Came on for Michael as Nigeria chased the game and had a shot deflected for a corner kick. (4/10)
