Chelsea Handed Fitness Boost Pre-Barcelona As Abraham Returns To Training
Published: July 21, 2019
Chelsea have been handed a boost ahead of their high profile pre-season friendly against Spanish champions Barcelona at Saitama Stadium 2002 (Saitama) on Tuesday, July 23, after Tammy Abraham returned to training.
Abraham resuming training is a welcome development as manager Frank Lampard is expected to assess the striker in the upcoming pre-season matches before deciding his future at Stamford Bridge.
The England U21 star was a surprise omission from the match day squad against Kawasaki Frontale two days ago and Lampard clarified after the game that the striker was suffering from tonsillitis.
He trained without any problems and was part of the winning team which also contained Fikayo Tomori, according to one of the training pictures published by Chelsea on their official website.
The one-time Nigerian Federation target has spent three successive seasons on loan at Bristol City, Swansea City and Aston Villa.
After the Barcelona game, the Europa League winners will meet Reading (July 28), RB Salzburg (July 31) and Borussia Monchengladbach (Aug 3).
