Crystal Palace Battling Aston Villa For Signature Of Nigerian Super Kid
Published: July 24, 2019Crystal Palace and Aston Villa are among the clubs interested in signing Nigeria-eligible striker Jonathan Afolabi according to reports.
Football.London says Afolabi is attracting interest from several clubs in England, Spain and Russia apart from the aforementioned Premier League teams.
It has been suggested that Palace are in pole position for his services having submitted a contract offer to the player and his camp.
Afolabi is presently a free agent after he was told he was surplus to requirements at Southampton at the end of last season but he is not lacking suitors thanks to his imperious displays for Republic of Ireland U19 squad.
The 19-year-old opened the scoring in Ireland's 2-1 win against Czech Republic in the quarterfinals of the U19 EURO and was on the scoresheet three times during the qualifiers.
The highly-rated striker played for Shamrock Rovers and St Joseph's Boys before moving to Southampton in 2016.
