Two-Goal Hero Hungbo Hailed By Watford Coach; Dele-Bashiru Training With First Team
Published: July 25, 2019
Watford U23 coach Hayden Mullins reserved special praise for Nigerian winger Joseph Hungbo following his man of the match performance in the 2-2 draw with St Albans City on Wednesday night.
The teenage winger opened the scoring after two minutes, cutting inside from the right before hitting a brilliant strike that drifted just inside the far post and restored the Hornets lead when his 20-yard drive beat goalkeeper Snedker in the 44th minute.
Hungbo ended his ten-year association with Crystal Palace after penning a one-year deal with Watford earlier this month.
''He’s been with us a while now. He was training with us for four or five months without kind of having a contract, so he has earned his chance and is very exciting,'' Mullins told Watford's official website.
''He can cut in on his left foot, he can go past players and he worked hard tonight. We know quite a bit a bit about him already and he looks very exciting.''
Central defender Jamal Balogun and Jayden Bennetts started yesterday's friendly against St Albans City along with Hungbo.
Meanwhile, new Hornets signing Tom Dele-Bashiru is training with Watford's first team ahead of their next pre-season game against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.
The Nigeria U20 international completed his transfer to the Vicarage Stadium outfit on Wednesday, signing a six-year deal.
