Arsenal Coach Reveals The Similarities Between Nigerian Winger And Pepe
Published: July 31, 2019
Speaking after Arsenal beat Angers SCO on penalties in their latest pre-season game, manager Unai Emery has spoken about the similarities between Nicolas Pepe and Nigerian winger Bukayo Saka.
Saka is one of the rising stars at the Arsenal Academy and traveled with the first team to the United States in July, featuring in pre-season matches against Colorado Rapids, Bayern Munich, Fiorentina and Real Madrid.
Pepe is set to be unveiled by the Emirates outfit in the coming days and the Spaniard was asked whether the Ivory Coast national-teamer can play with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Emery was quoted as saying by arsenal.com : ''Yes first because he is left footed. We have a left footer in Bukayo, a young player who has a big future for us.
''For example on the wing one left-footed player can play on one side or the other. It can give us different options.''
Apart from Pepe, the 17-year-old Saka will be fighting with Alex Iwobi, Reiss Nelson and Henrikh Mkhitaryan for a spot in the starting line-up in the new season.
Coach Emery recognized Saka's talents last season, handing him debuts in the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League.
