Chelsea Starlet Uwakwe Gets On The Scoresheet Against Glasgow Rangers U23
Tariq Uwakwe was Chelsea's star of the night as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Glasgow Rangers development squad in a friendly staged to mark the opening of the new stand at The Hummel Training Centre on Friday.

Nigerian striker Dapo Mebude started for the home team while midfielders Faustino Anjorin and Uwakwe were named in Chelsea's starting line-up.

Mebude had a chance to break the deadlock just before half-time but goalkeeper Jamie Cumming saved his shot from close range.

Josh McPake gave Rangers the lead in the 52nd minute, firing home a cut-back from Jordan Houston.

The lead lasted only six minutes though as Uwakwe headed past Andy Firth, and Rangers came close to regaining the lead but the Chelsea goalie saved Mebude's effort.

The 19-year-old Uwakwe, who joined Chelsea as an U9, extended his contract with the club this summer.

A midfielder by trade, he trained with The Blues first team last season.
