Iwobi Denied Debut Goal By The Woodwork As Everton Lose To Aston Villa
Published: August 23, 2019
Nigeria international Alex Iwobi has finally made his debut for Everton two weeks after his move to Goodison Park.
The 23-year-old winger left Arsenal prior to the start of the season but couldn't feature for Marco Silva's side in their opening game against Crystal Palace.
Many Everton fans thought the summer signing would make his debut in their 1-0 victory over Watford last weekend but he didn't come off the bench.
However, the Nigerian star was called upon by Marco Silva in the 61st minute against Aston Villa as the manager decided to add more firepower to his attacking line that was far from impressive throughout the opening half.
Iwobi's introduction brought spark and life to the team as he struck the woodwork in the 83rd minute but he could not prevent Everton from recording their first defeat in three Premier League games this season.
Iwobi will hope that he's done enough to win a place in the manager's starting line-up when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, 1st of September.
