Chelsea Captain Reveals Exactly What Abraham Told Barkley Before Missed Penalty
Published: September 18, 2019
Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has made it clear that Tammy Abraham and Jorginho were encouraging Ross Barkley to take the spot kick in the closing minutes of their shock 1-0 loss to Valencia in the UEFA Champions League last night.
Trailing 1-0 through a Rodrigo goal, The Blues were handed a lifeline after they
were awarded a penalty but the spot kick was missed by Barkley.
It was earlier claimed that the England international midfielder ignored calls from Jorginho, William and Abraham not to take the penalty but Azpilicueta has played down the significance of those reports.
Speaking to BT Sport, the Spaniard explained : ''They (Jorginho and Tammy Abraham) were encouraging him to have the confidence to score.
''There was high expectation so everyone was trying to take him into the best condition.
"At the end of the game, a penalty can be decisive and unfortunately this time it went wrong for us. Hopefully next time he scores."

Chelsea's leading scorer in the new season, Abraham missed a penalty in the UEFA Super Cup against Liverpool and has put the disappointment behind him, scoring 7 goals in his last five matches.
