'I Knew I Would Get A Chance' - Birthday Boy Abraham Reacts After Opening Champions League Account
Published: October 02, 2019
Chelsea will make the short journey across the English channel with three points in the bag following their hard fought 2-1 win against Lille at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Wednesday night.
Blues legend Frank Lampard's tactical acumen won the game for Chelsea, changing to a 4-3-3 system when Callum Hudson-Odoi replaced Reece James.
On the day he turned 22, Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham gave the visitors the lead in the 22nd minute with an excellent finish after he was set up by Fikayo Tomori but Victor Osimhen's brilliant header restored parity for the Ligue 1 side at minute 33.
Willian with a shot on the bounce restored Chelsea's one-goal advantage in the 77th minute and Lille could not equalise again as they did in the first half through Osimhen.
Reflecting on his maiden Champions League goal and win against Lille, Abraham told reporters : ''We knew we needed to win. I knew I would get a chance and I took it well. Never an easy place to play and Willian scores a worldie - no surprise there.
''The manager always wants to mix things up, we can play any system. This is massive''.
