Two Nigerian Goalkeepers Shine As Chelsea Win Another Silverware
Published: October 20, 2019Chelsea U16s have matched the feat of the U15 team after winning the Premier League U16 International Tournament on Sunday afternoon, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Blues beat Manchester City 1-0 in the final staged at the Loughborough University Stadium thanks to a goal from England U16 striker Jude Soonsup-Bell.
Nigeria Football Federation target Prince Adegoke was preferred ahead of Chelsea teammate Kelechi Chibueze against the Citizens but the England U16 goalkeeper replaced him at half-time.
Both halves were 25 minutes each and a Manchester City player was dismissed in the closing minutes.
Adegoke was called up to a Nigeria U17 training camp prior to their trip to Sao Paulo but club commitments prevented him from traveling to Abuja.
Regarded as one of the promising academy goalkeepers in England, he is also on the radar of the English Football Association but his parents want him to represent Nigeria at international level.
Both Adegoke and Chibueze are eligible to sign scholarship deals with Chelsea in the 2020-2021 season.
