EFL League One outfit Rotherham United confirmed on Tuesday that reliable defender Michael Ihiekwe has extended his contract with the club until the summer of 2022, subject to EFL and FA ratification.
A product of Liverpool's academy system, Ihiekwe moved to the Millers in 2017 and is credited with 64 games in all competitions, scoring four goals.
Ihiekwe has made a step up in his career as he was playing for Tranmere Rovers, who were then a Conference club, prior to his transfer to Rotherham United.
Explaining why he decided to stay put at Rotherham United, Ihiekwe said : ''Since I have been here I have improved a lot as a player, we have got a great changing room full of lads.
''It is a little bit new this season, few new faces, but the gaffer has brought in a lot of good people to be honest and the staff as well.
''Obviously I have improved under them and I want to keep improving, that was a big part of why I signed''.
