Nigerian Midfielder Opens Goalscoring Account For Real Madrid's B Team
Published: October 27, 2019
Nigerian midfielder Marvin Akinlabi opened his goalscoring account for Real Madrid Castilla on Saturday but could not prevent Raul's team from losing 2-1 to Racing de Ferrol on matchday ten in the Spanish Segunda B.
It was the first home defeat for Real Madrid Castilla since they lost 1-0 Pontevedra on May 19, 2019.
Akinlabi opened the scoring for Real Madrid's B team in the 24th minute when he stole the ball from a Racing de Ferrol defender and slotted home when one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
Juan Antonio converted a penalty to restore parity on 32 minutes before Fer Beltrán netted what proved to be the winning goal at minute 40.
In the second half, Akinlabi missed a glorious chance to equalise as he failed to turn home a cross from the right flank.
The 19-year-old appears to have broken into Real Madrid Castilla's starting line-up as the match against Racing de Ferrol was his third consecutive start in the league after playing as a substitute in five previous games this season.
Palma de Mallorca-born Akinlabi is also eligible to represent the national teams of Spain and South Korea.
